Phase 1: Identify

Goal

Generate ideas for an AI data space and determine an AI application that requires data sharing between multiple parties. Define the goals and scope of the AI data space, determine the feasibility and approach and activate key stakeholders

Prerequisite

There are multiple parties that have a common purpose they can articulate and want to co-develop.

1. Brainstorming

Description

Identify challenges and opportunities that can be solved through data sharing for AI to generate ideas for an AI application

Approach

Using your brainstorming method of choice, determine potential ideas for use cases while taking inspiration from existing resources

Resources

Best practices

  • New ideas can be based on the automation of (repetitive) tasks, new value propositions, new insights to reduce risks, or solving inefficiencies
  • A compelling business challenge or opportunity that needs solving creates the necessary sense of urgency and commitment for stakeholders to actively contribute to and reap the benefits of PoC success

2. Design and deliver PoC

Description

Assess the potential value of your AI application to determine feasibility of realising it. Clearly define the scope of the AI data space to ensure focus.

Approach

Determine the scope and feasibility of your AI data sharing use case using the DSC Use Case Playbook for support. Review relevant regulation to confirm legality of your AI application

Resources

Best practices

  • Determine the value potential of the use case to determine feasibility
  • Consider the long term impact of the use case, as well as the focus for the upcoming period
  • Ensure value for the entitled party
  • Check implications of relevant AI regulations on idea with legal professional

3. Implement and operationalise

Description

Determine what actors are involved in your AI data space

Approach

Activate stakeholders by emphasising the value of the AI data space and identify and activate frontrunners. Use the DSC Use Case Playbook to help you determine who the other actors in your AI data space are and what their roles are.

Resources

Best practices

  • Validate the value proposition with involved stakeholders to create buy-in
  • The AI data space participants should bring forward an “operational owner” that drives result on behalf of the participants
  • The AI data space should have someone responsible for oversight. The individual should be the contact person sharing best practices
  • Commitment is required by participants to invest time/resources in the AI data space. A ”Letter of Intent” could help formalise commitment by all participants at the start

4. Run and scale

Description

Start planning to realise your AI data space

Approach

Reach an agreement on whether you want to continue with the AI data space. Create a project plan for the design, implementation and operationalisation phases

Resources

Best practices

  • Having a transparent process and communication helps participants connect and develop better PoCs
  • Learn from other AI data spaces by communicating best practices regularly with each other
  • Promote results beyond the boundaries of a single AI data space to activate others.
