Working group Port and Maritime started with Ilyaz Nasrullah

Published on: 10 August 2020

The port-maritime-sector in the Netherlands is globally competitive and an important for the Dutch economy. The technological applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in this sector are very extensive. On the one hand opportunities for international cooperation are expected, on the other hand there is fierce competition. It is therefore important that the sector is autonomously able to apply the key technology AI and further develop the necessary knowledge and skills in this area.

Kees van der Klauw, coalition manager of the Netherlands AI Coalition (NL AIC), is pleased that Ilyaz Nasrullah, digital strategist for the regional Rotterdam Maritime Capital program, is strengthening the coalition as chairman of the Port and Maritime working group. Ilyaz Nasrullah explains: “The port-maritime-sector is extensive and diverse, and so are the applications of AI in this sector. The biggest challenge is to systematically build up the knowledge, skills and infrastructure needed for transformative applications of AI within the sector. How this should be done is the job of the Port and Maritime working group. I am happy to take up this challenge together with participants from the sector from my role at NL AIC”.

Working group

The working group’s ambition for the next five years is to boost the development of data licensing and AI in the port-maritime-domain. Among other things by maintaining good contacts with the sector, developing a vision and strategy for common challenges, and supporting promising propositions. The last months the Municipality of Rotterdam, InnovationQuarter, Netherlands Maritime Technology (NMT), TU Delft and the Port of Rotterdam have made a start on this. Together with the participants of the NL AIC, they want to take the following steps in the coming period. For more information about the workgroup, please consult this page.
