The AiNed Investment Programme
The AiNed Investment Programme is one of the five projects that were submitted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. It accelerates the development and application of AI so that the Netherlands can reap the economic and social rewards of AI and keep pace with other leading countries. This long-term programme focuses on large-scale projects for resolving five bottlenecks through a unique self-learning and integrated approach throughout the chain. Human-centred AI is paramount and the work is being done jointly by all parties in the quadruple helix (government, education and research, business, civil society and the public).
“The AiNed programme is very ambitious and stands out for its integral, learning chain approach that is essential for the success of AI in the Netherlands,” says Kees van der Klauw, manager of the Netherlands AI Coalition. “It requires a lot of parties to work together and we are showing that it works – in the Netherlands AI Coalition, in regional hubs and in projects!”
Mona Keijzer, State Secretary:
During the visit to the Brainport Industries Campus, one of the Brainport AI hub sites, the State Secretary was informed about AI-driven assembly capabilities in high-tech industry, with a demonstration. The aims here are to create flexibility in the production processes, maintain the highest quality levels and achieve inter alia continuous knowledge transfer between operators and a high level of employee satisfaction. This was followed by an overview of the activities taking place in the Brainport AI hub. The use of AI is a leitmotif running through the field labs and projects that constitute the activities of this AI hub.

AI for good
There was also an introduction to FruitPunch AI, a startup with a global community that applies AI to help attain the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. They do this by training engineers and enablers to apply AI sustainably and ethically, using real-world AI challenges and peer learning. Using a platform that supports this form of challenge-based education, they are giving a new generation of AI engineers and enablers the skills to tackle humanity’s biggest challenges.
The goal
All seven AI hubs and the NL AIC’s partners and participants from government, business, education, research and civil society organisations are committed to accelerating AI developments in the Netherlands and linking up AI initiatives in the country. The aim is to use the AiNed Investment Programme to put the Netherlands in a front-runner position in terms of AI knowledge and applications. People-oriented, for prosperity and well-being.
