Organisation profile

Leiden University was founded in 1575 and is one of the leading international research universities in Europe. It has 7 faculties and a campus in Leiden and The Hague. Our staff are driven by curiosity in fundamental knowledge, multidisciplinary research; their aim is to benefit research and to address the major societal challenges of the future.

Activites in AI field

At Leiden University education and research on AI are of the highest standard. There is close collaborations between the various disciplines in both facets, through multiple platforms. Science communication and outreach are pivotal in strengthening our (inter)natiornal positioning.

Contribution to the NL AIC

Leiden University closely collaborates with many stakeholders on advancing AI research and education. We would like to strengthen and expand our collaborations through the coalition. Only by collaborating widely can we further our multidisciplinary research on AI in all its myriad other applications in a proper, ethical and sustainable manner.

Why NL AIC?

Leiden University is a centre of excellence for multidisciplinary research and education in computer science and artificial intelligence. The future of AI is human: to create AI for Good we need to combine the expertise from researchers in AI techniques with the human aspects of AI. The goal is to advance science and improve the quality of life.

Building blocks

The NL AIC collaborates on the necessary common knowledge and expertise, resulting in five themes, also called building blocks. Those are important for a robust impact in economic and social sectors.

Sectors

AI is a generic technology that is ultimately applicable in all sectors. For the development of knowledge and experience in the use of AI in the Netherlands, it is essential to focus on specific industries that are relevant to our country. These industries can achieve excellent results, and knowledge and experience that can be leveraged for application in other sectors.

Become a participant

The Netherlands AI Coalition is convinced that active collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders is essential to stimulate and connect initiatives in Artificial Intelligence. Within fields of expertise and with other stakeholders in the ecosystem to achieve the most significant result possible in the development and application of AI in the Netherlands. Representatives from the business community (large, small, start-up), government, research and educational institutions and civil society organisations can participate.
