AI is a generic technology that is ultimately applicable in all sectors. For the development of knowledge and experience in the use of AI in the Netherlands, it is essential to focus on specific industries that are relevant to our country. These industries can achieve excellent results, and knowledge and experience are extended for application in other sectors.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming defence and is being applied more and more frequently. Think of decision support systems, data analysis, information-controlled action, predictive maintenance, and the improvement of sensors such as radar and sonar. AI is also used in autonomous platforms. The Ministry of Defence has to act on these developments. It is faced with the task of improving its existing capacity and stimulating research into new possibilities.

The Ministry of Defence is now working together with industry and the knowledge institutes TNO, NLR and Marin. Collaboration with participating parties of the Netherlands AI Coalition (NL AIC) is of great importance to maintain the technological leadership.
